Two Mn(II) coordination polymers, formulated as [Mn(Hhtpa)<sub>2</sub>(bpa)<sub>2</sub>(H<sub>2</sub>O)]<sub>n</sub><b>(1)</b> and {[Mn(htpa)(H<sub>2</sub>O)]·H<sub>2</sub>O}<sub>n</sub><b>(2)</b> (htpa = 4-carboxyphenylacetate, bpa = 1,2-di(4-pyridyl)-ethane), have been synthesized by the hydrothermal reaction and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, IR and TGA. The structures of both compounds are based on different Mn(II)-carboxylate chain motifs. Complex <b>1</b> is a one-dimensional coordination polymer featuring <i>μ</i><sub>2</sub>-carboxyl bridged MnO<sub>4</sub>N<sub>2</sub> octahedra. Complex <b>2</b> contains Mn-O inorganic chains, featuring <i>μ</i><sub>2</sub>-O bridged MnO<sub>6</sub> octahedra, which are interconnected further by interchain htpa ligands to form a two-dimensional coordination polymer.
