Temporal Disruption and Recovery of Gut Microbiota During Chemotherapy: A Metagenomic Perspective

This project investigates the temporal effects of gemcitabine chemotherapy on the gut microbiota of Wistar rats and evaluates whether quercetin supplementation mitigates chemotherapy-associated dysbiosis. Full-length 16S rRNA gene sequencing (Oxford Nanopore GridION) was performed on fecal samples collected at baseline and on days 3 and 8. The study characterizes taxonomic and ecological disruptions induced by gemcitabine, including loss of beneficial commensals and expansion of opportunistic pathogens. These data provide a comprehensive resource for understanding chemotherapy-induced microbiota alterations and the limited protective impact of quercetin supplementation.
