Cardiorenal Effects of Peritoneal Dialysis in the 5/6Nx Uremic Rat Model

In this study we compare transcriptomic changes in the kidney and left ventricle in response to peritoneal dialyisis exchanges performed 3x per day for 8 days beginning 6 weeks after 5/6 nephrectomy or sham surgery in 10 week old male Sprague Dawley rats. . Overall design: Ten week old male Sprague Dawley rats were subjected to the excision model of 5/6 nephrectomy (5/6Nx; right kidney + 2/3 of left kidney) or sham surgery (left kidney). At 5.5 weeks post surgery a dialysis port and catheter were placed in the abdominal cavity and peritoneal dialysis (3x/day for 8 days) was initiated at week 6 post-surgery. At the end of the 7 week study left kidney and left ventricle tissue was collected for histological analysis and mRNA sequencing.
