We used 454 pyrosequencing of 16S rRNA genes to analyze the archaeal and bacterial diversities of carbonate samples collected at three serpentinite-hosted hyperalkaline springs of the Voltri massif (Ligurian Alps, Northern Italy). This first investigation of microbial communities in this ophiolite, revealed the diversity of phylogenetic and metabolic groups of these three hyperalkaline springs.
