The World Historical Shipdrift Archives consists of 416 files of
observations of ship drift collected by the U.S. Naval Oceanographic
Office between 1853 and 1973, averaged by one-degree square and by
2X5-degree square. Averages are collected by year and by month.
Since the raw shipdrift data was organized by 10-degree latitudinal
bands the averaged files are also. The primary data are simply
velocity (U,V) at a time and location (latitude, longitude). In
addition, the variances of U and V, the covariance of U and V, and the
Eddy Kinetic Energy are calculated.
