Included are the data, R code and a supplementary video.  Data: mammalian_cues_toy_data_complete.csv id: a unique identifier for the individual baboon sex: baboon sex, F (female), M (male) rank: relative rank of the baboon from 0 (lowest ranking) to 1 (highest ranking) age_class2: age class of the baboon (adult = adult, juv = juvenile) obj_type: the object that was presented (7 levels) cues: the mammalian cues present in the object type (4 levels) handling_s: the number of seconds the object was handled by the particular baboon for the particular presentation groom_s: the number of seconds the object was groomed by the particular baboon for the particular presentation break_s: the number of seconds the object was aggressed by the particular baboon for the particular presentation R code: Reiderman et al_toy_thanatology analyses.txt R script to replicate the analyses. Video: Supp Movie_Baboon grooms blue ball.MP4 Video of baboon grooming the ‘furball’ object: The baboon is seen moving with their hands the blue synthetic fur of the ball in a manner reminiscent of grooming, and puts their mouth to the surface of the ball to ‘clean’ the object, as is seen during grooming of conspecifics.
