SARS-CoV-2 genetic diversity in immunocompromised patients

SARS-CoV-2 carriage lasts longer in immunocompromised hosts than in immunocompetent patients. A prolonged infection has been associated with a higher probability to select novel SARS-CoV-2 mutations, especially in the Spike protein, a key target for vaccines and therapeutics. Here, we conducted a case-control study to measure the genetic diversity of SARS-CoV-2 and to assess specific mutations present in minority proportion within the immunocompromised population.
