Associations of Chronic Marijuana Use with Changes of Salivary Microbiome

The public use of Marijuana (MJ) has increased since its recent legalization for medicinal and recreational use in western countries, which raises concerns about the potential health impact from this substance. MJ use has been associated with poor oral health, but its effects on oral microbiome composition are unknown. In this study, we analyzed the microbiome composition of saliva samples collected from adult chronic MJ users (n=18) and nonusers (n=20) to evaluate MJ use-associated changes in the relative abundances of taxa and in the overall structure of microbial communities.
