资源简介:
This dataverse contains two ranked lists of the 44 most national media cited NATO and International Security scholars across Denmark and Norway from the period 2019-2024; their scholarly outputs and academic citations in this period; as well as their institutional affiliation and geographical location. This data was collected as part of the Mind the Gap: Security Scholarship between Academia and Policy research project (https://www.mind-the-gap.dk). On the academic side, we drew bibliometric data from Scopus and SciVal, building two thematic search blocks: one focused on the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and another covering the broader field of International Security. We include both to capture different dimensions of security scholarship. Searches were restricted to titles, abstracts, and keywords to reduce irrelevant results. From the retrieved publication sets, we retained only authors with a minimum output of two peer-reviewed scholarly publications indexed in Scopus and SciVal that fell within one or both thematic blocks (NATO + International Security). Authors’ geographical location was determined by the affiliation listed with their name in the databases; cases with missing or ambiguous affiliations were double-checked in Scopus, and authors whose primary affiliation was neither Danish nor Norwegian were excluded. For the remaining authors, we manually verified these data as well as their career stage and gender. This procedure yielded two ranked lists of the 44 most cited scholars in NATO and International Security research in DK and NO, combined. To complement academic performance, we mapped the same scholars’ visibility in national media. Using Infomedia (Denmark) and Retriever (Norway), we identified all articles mentioning these scholars during the same period. In cases where a substantial share of a scholar’s media coverage related primarily to administrative roles, such as serving as dean or rector, an additional keyword filter was applied to exclude coverage unrelated to their security studies expertise. Together, these measures provide a consistent way to compare academic standing and public visibility across the two countries.
