Vedlegg til "Endonymiprinsippet og flerspråklige stedsnavn i Europa"

The dataset consists of one PDF document and one spreadsheet workbook, which contain the complete results of the article "Endonymiprinsippet og flerspråklige stedsnavn i Europa" [The endonymic principle and plurilingual toponyms in Europe].

Explanations and references are provided in the PDF. All text is in Norwegian, but the maps in Appendix 1 of the PDF (pp. 34–45) are intelligible without knowledge of Norwegian. They show the geographic distribution of regional and minority languages in Europe (most recent estimates available of standardised languages). In several cases, distributions should be regarded as approximate, partly because no detailed or recent estimates are available, partly because coloured areas follow administrative borders (provinces, municipalities etc.), which are not always congruent with linguistic borders. Countries are abbreviated following ISO 3166-1 (two uppercase letters), languages following ISO 639-2/T or ISO 639-3 (three lowercase letters). Please note that national languages, which are emphasised using boldface, did not normally get a colour of their own, so that the light grey background colour can represent different languages in different countries. Also the remaining colours may represent different languages, but the same language has always the same colour. The intensity of a colour indicates the proportion of users of the language in the local population (using three intervals: 5%–25%, 25%–50% og 50%–100%).
