We aimed to characterize the bacterial and archaeal community composition in the sediment of experimental mesocosms using 16S rRNA sequencing. We used the data as response variable to understand how microbial community assembly and function was influenced by pH and dispersal. Lake sediment microbial communities mediate carbon diagenesis, and understanding of the variation in microbial community composition can help inform ecosystem responses to changing environmental conditions.
