Cellular states capable of promoting tumor progression and resisting therapies exist in heterogeneous tumors. Here we examine the transcriptional states of epithelial cells, sampled over a time-course, in a mouse model of lung adenocarcinoma. We identify a high- plasticity cell state common to mouse and human lung tumors drives cellular heterogeneity, and is highly tumorigenic and drug resistant, and associates with poor patient prognosis.
