This dataset contains data collected during the optimization of an experimental method (direct competitive ELISA) to quantify caffeine uptake by the Asian clam Corbicula fluminea following exposure to waterborne caffeine (1 mg/L). It includes measurements of caffeine accumulated in soft tissues, adsorbed/absorbed by shells, and remaining dissolved in aqueous medium. The dataset comprises: raw and minimally processed data concerning the quantifications of caffeine in the soft tissue, shells, and in the water, following different methods of samples preparation (including spikes and matrix dilution). This dataset was produced within the scope of Task 1.4 in work package 1 of the EU project NYMPHE, aiming at characterizing the ability of bivalves as bioremediation agents to address wastewater contaminated with micropollutants such as pharmaceuticals and stimulants. Outside the project, the dataset can be useful for future research where bioremediation strategies using the filtration abilities of clams are focused, as background information.
