Lactobacillus reuteri SLZX19-12 protects colon from infection by enhancing anti-stress capacity of gut microbiota

In this study, a strain of Lactobacillus reuteri SLZX19-12 (L. reuteri SLZX19-12) was isolated from the fecal microbiota of Tibetan piglets. Infection of S. typhimurium SL1344 led to disordered colonic microbiota, disrupted intestinal barrier, and translocation of pathogens to parenteral visceral organs in mice. However, the mice pretreated with L. reuteri SLZX19-12 showed lower load of Salmonella in visceral organs and alleviated damage of colonic barrier. By the 16S rDNA sequencing, the administration of L. reuteri SLZX19-12 shaped the more stable microbiota structure and higher barrier integrity of colon, in which the abundant of Alloprevotella was greatly enhanced.
