The Museo de Ciencias Naturales de ?lava has a Palaeontology collection of approximately 17 000 fossils from various important fossil sites, primarily in the Basque-Cantabrian region (northern Spain). The following materials are represented in the collection: Early Cretaceous amber biota from Moraza and Pe?acerrada (Trevi?o and ?lava), the Late Cretaceous terrestrial and marine vertebrates from La?o y Albaina (Trevi?o), marine invertebrates and vertebrates from the Late Cretaceous of ?lava, vertebrates from the Eocene lacustrine deposit of Zambrana (?lava) and Miocene plant and arthropod fossils from Izarra (?lava). The collection, which is fully curated and computer catalogued, is divided into the following four subcollections: fossil invertebrates (comprise 53 %), vertebrates (27 %), bioinclusions in amber (18.5 %) and fossil plants (1.5 %). The museum notably has many unique fossil specimens, including more than 300 primary types. The collection is curated by geologists Jose Carmelo Corral and Rafael L?pez Del Valle.
