This study examines how different levels of behavioral realism in VR avatars affect self-disclosure during social interactions. Participants interacted with two avatars: one with advanced motion capture and another with basic tracking. High-realism avatars were generally preferred for enjoyment and realism, though some favored the simpler option due to discomfort caused by imperfections in realistic movements (uncanny valley effect). The study highlights the importance of user choice in avatar realism, with lower-realism avatars still effective for accessible VR therapy.
