<p>Detroit Safe Access to Transit (DSAT) deploys safety countermeasures at 56 bus stop intersections with a history of fatal or serious injury crashes involving pedestrians or cyclists.</p>
<p>In 2023, the City of Detroit was awarded a $24.8 million Safe Streets for All (SS4A) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT). In addition to safety countermeasures, DSAT also implements ADA improvements, and safety training for DDOT operators. The work is divided into two bus stop types:</p>
<p>Safer Bus Stops - high crash intersections without transfers.</p>
<p>Safer Transfers - high crash signalized intersections that operate as transfer locations between routes.</p>
<p>Safety improvements can include:
+Permanent transit islands
+ Certain transit amenities
+Sidewalk widening
+ ADA improvements
+Signal improvements
+Lighting upgrades
+ Pavement markings
+ Centerline hardening</p>
