The taxonomic composition of soil viruses along the Namib Desert aridity gradient was assessed using deep sequencing of metavirome libraries extracted from surface soils. Soil physicochemical data were used to determine influences, if any, on the observed soil-specific taxonomic compositions of virus communities.
