Screen for signatures of positive selection in the core-genome of Staphylococcus epidermidis

Genome-wide analysis of 1,003 Staphylococcus epidermidis genomes identified positive selection across 826 core genes. Sixteen genes, primarily involved in metabolism, transport, and antimicrobial resistance (including ileS) showed evidence of selection, highlighting adaptive changes linked to bacterial fitness and clinical persistence.
