There was a borderline significant tendency towards an increased frequency of Hp2/Hp2 genotype, and a decreased frequency of the Hp1/Hp1 genotype, in PCOS patients compared with non-hyperandrogenic controls (χ2 = 5.220, P = 0.074 overall; χ2 = 3.650, P = 0.056 for a dominant model; χ2 = 3.521, P = 0.061 for a recessive model). There were no statistically significant differences in the distribution of haptoglobin genotypes among the women classified according to their weight classification (χ2 = 0.082, P = 0.960) or to their glucose tolerance (χ2 = 2.610, P = 0.271).
