The Genetics of Lung Adenocarcinoma in Never Smokers. Homo sapiens

An unbiased genomic study using massively parallel sequencing of patients with lung adenocarcinoma who report no history of tobacco smoking. 15%-40% of patients with lung adenocarcinoma report no history of tobacco smoking and 70% of lung adenocarcinomas from never smokers display no known "driver" mutations. As the mutational burden in tumors from never smokers is lower than that found in tumors from smokers, it stands to reason that key molecular events can be discerned more readily in these genomes compared to those from tobacco related cancer genomes having a larger number of passenger mutations.
