VPRS 7931 Register of Determinations

This series contains the original copy of determinations laid down by the Small Claims Tribunal from its establishment in 1974.Under the Small Claims Tribunal Act, 1973 (No.8486) which established the Tribunal, any person who was involved in a dispute with a trader over the supply of goods or services or over an insurance contract could submit an application to the Small Claims Tribunal for his or her grievance to be heard by the Tribunal and for a legally enforceable decision to be given on the matter. This series was created under section 38 of the Act which required the Registrar of the Tribunal to keep a register of all orders made by the Tribunal showing the names of the claimant and respondent, a concise description of the matter in dispute and the order made by the Tribunal including the amount of money to be paid by way of compensation.In addition to this information the determinations also give the application number, the date of the order and the name of the Referee.Format of recordsAll registers created to 1986 were maintained by the Tribunal in lever arch folders each containing approximately 300 determinations. For preservation and storage reasons all registers created from 1987 have been removed from these folders and placed within acid free manilla folders. The contents of each of these folders corresponds to the contents of an individual lever arch folder; any control symbols found on a lever arch folder were copied onto the new folder.
