Anonymised survey dataset from 101 Dungan women in Central Asia: educational aspirations, gender roles and sociocultural barriers to higher education

This dataset contains the fully anonymised and recoded survey responses from 101 young Dungan women collected in February 2026. The study examines how young Dungan women negotiate higher education and transnational study mobility within intersecting expectations of family, marriage, religion and community reputation. The public dataset includes aggregated socio-demographic variables, 32 five-point Likert-scale items, a five-item study-abroad module and two auxiliary variables. Open-ended textual responses, interview transcripts, audio recordings, exact locations, institutional names and direct identifiers are not included. All variable names are in English. Likert-scale items are coded 1–5. NA indicates not applicable or skipped items. Code 99 indicates unknown, not disclosed, prefer not to answer, or recoded for anonymisation.
