EU Bird Protected Areas HWRM-RL 2. Cycle

The Flood Risk Management Directive (HWRM-RL) 2. Cycle 2016-2021 identified potentially affected EU bird sanctuaries for flood load cases HQ Frequently, HQ100, HQextrem. According to Article 4 of the EC Birds Directive (79/409/EEC), Member States (in the Federal Republic of Germany the federal states) are obliged to declare the most suitable areas for area and number for species listed in Annex I to the Directive (Article 4(1)) and for migratory species (Article 4(2)) as special protected areas (BSG, European Bird Conservation Areas) and to notify the European Commission as part of the ecologically networked Natura 2000 conservation area system.
