Bacillus halodurans strain C-125. Strain C-125 (JCM9153) was isolated in 1977 and is the most well studied alkaliphilic Bacillus organism. The genome contains many transposase genes, suggesting extensive horizontal gene transfer. Several key competence genes are missing, indicating that taking DNA up from the environment may be impaired in this organism.
