Bacterial Communities in water and sediment along the basin of the Tama River

Data on diversity and ecological functions of the bacterioplankton community inhabiting lotic ecosystems is essential for the maintenance of healthy river. Since bacterioplankton communities are important factors governing changes in river ecology, we evaluated their diversity in sediment and size-fractionated water samples from the Tama River, a typical urban river in Japan, to verify their taxonomy and functional classes. This time we collected samples from 3 locations, viz., up-, mid- and downstream to comprehensively cover the river basin, and employed shotgun metagenomic approach using MiSeq.
