This series is the alphabetical index for Bills of sale from the Land Title Office [Registrar General].The Bills of Sale Act 1898 (Act No.10, 1898) (assented to 27 July 1898), provided for the registration of instruments relating to mortgage interests over goods and personal chattels within the General register of deeds. Manual indexes were created as finding aids to assist access to the records.The alphabetical indexes are bound. The alphabetical range and date range are printed on the spine of each volume. The indexes are arranged in alphabetical order by surname. The following template headings are contained within the volume: from whom, to whom, number and nature of instrument.With the introduction of the Automated Deeds Indexing Service (ADIS) in 1992, an electronic index to the Bills of sale was created and the paper indexes were no longer maintained. The series ceased to be created in 2006 when the Liens on Crops and Wool and Stock Mortgages Act 1898 (Act No.7, 1898) and Bills of Sale Act 1898 were repealed by the Security of Interests in Goods Act 2005 (Act No.59, 2005).
