AI + PERSONALIZED LANGUAGE LEARNING: TRANSFORMING FOREIGN LANGUAGE EDUCATION IN THE DIGITAL AGE

Abstract: The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has created new opportunities for transforming foreign language education through personalized learning. Traditional language classrooms often face difficulties in addressing learners’ individual differences, including proficiency levels, learning styles, interests, learning speed, and specific linguistic needs. AI-powered educational technologies offer opportunities to overcome these limitations by analyzing learner data, adapting learning materials, providing individualized feedback, and creating interactive learning environments. This article examines the role of Artificial Intelligence in personalized language learning and analyzes its potential benefits, challenges, and pedagogical implications. The study employs a qualitative conceptual methodology based on the analysis of research on AI-assisted language learning, adaptive learning, personalized education, and digital pedagogy. The findings suggest that AI can contribute to more individualized vocabulary acquisition, grammar development, writing improvement, pronunciation practice, speaking activities, and formative assessment. However, the effective use of AI requires teacher involvement, digital literacy, ethical awareness, data protection, and critical evaluation of AI-generated content. The article argues that AI should not replace teachers but should function as an intelligent support system that helps educators respond to individual learner needs. A human-centered model of AI-supported personalized language learning is proposed.
