The goal of this study was to assess the effect of prolonged ethanol fixation on stool communities. In this pilot study, samples from a dog and an infant were either immediately extracted, or incubated in ethanol for up to 15 days prior to DNA extraction. Community metagenomes were sequenced on a MiSeq (2 x 150 bp).
