Geological 3D model “Thüringer Becken” (WMS Service)

Geological 3D model of the Thuringian basin for the overview scale 1: 200,000 with 15 geological horizons and 59 faults. The Thuringian Basin covers an area of approximately 12.000 km² and is predominantly located in the Free State of Thuringia; smaller areas belong to Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Hessen. It is bordered by the Thuringian Forest in the southwest, the Thuringian Slate Mountains in the southeast and by Harz and Kyffhäuser in the north. Geologically, it is a trough filled with upper carbonic to triasian sediments and is divided into single tectonic plaice by several NW-SE faults. Liassian and Cretan sediments occur only in small deposits. Detailed information on the geological conditions of the Thuringian basin is provided by SEIDEL (2003). The model was created with the software Paradigm SKUA-GOCAD at the Thuringian State Institute for Environment and Geology as part of the BMBF-funded project “INFLUINS”.
