资源简介:
This dataset is produced by simulations using the earth system model CESM2-CAM6. Analyses based on these data are presented in "The turbulent future - a breath of fresh air", Stjern et al., 2023, Nature Communications. Main findings are that black carbon (BC) suppresses turbulence, reduces planetary boundary height and increases the number of high pollution events, while CO2 has an opposite effect.
Simulations include a control simulation BASE, a simulation BCx10 where anthropogenic black carbon emissions are increased tenfold, a simulation SO4x5 where anthropogenic sulfate and sulphur dioxide emissions are increased fivefold, and a simulation CO2x2 where carbon dioxide concentrations are doubled. All four experiments are run both in a setup with fixed sea surface temperatures (fsst - simulation length 15 years) and in a mode fully coupled with land and ocean models (cpl - simulation length 70 years). Turbulence-related variables Richardsons number (R) and Brünt Väisälä frequency (N) were not standard model output and were calculated separately and stored in a set of files with prefix RiN*. Further instructions on file and data structure can be found in the README file.
