Phenotype data collected for 42 cryptophyte species in this study. Strains were grown in batch culture on a 12:12 h light:dark cycle at an irradiance of 30 μmol photons m-2 s-1 with illumination provided from the side by Daylight Deluxe Arctic White 32-watt fluorescent lamps (Philips, Inc.) following Cunningham et al. [14; see also electronic supplementary material data S1].
