We report a complete sequence for the R1 plasmid, originally discovered in a Salmonella Paratyphi B clinical isolate from London, 1963. R1 is a resistance plasmid that has long served as a model system for the study of conjugative plasmids. It carries resistance genes for ampicillin, chloramphenicol, kanamycin, and streptomycin.
