<b>Data and links for: Light alters calling-song characteristics in crickets</b>

This study presents a novel large-scale dataset for audio analysis of male cricket stridulation, specifically focusing on calling-song patterns. It identifies and analyzes cricket chirps and syllables, revealing that illumination conditions affects calling-song properties in <i>Gryllus bimaculatus </i>crickets. Additionally, preliminary female choice experiments suggest that females reared under light:dark cycles and later exposed to playback of male calling songs present a preference for male calling-song recordings from light:dark conditions over those from constant light conditions. These findings indicate that constant light alters male calling-song properties in a way that may be discernible to females, possibly affecting mate-choice.
