Severe linear convective wind reports in the Northern Eurasian forests

The dataset contains 351 severe linear convective wind (SLCW) reports from routine three-hourly observations of Russian weather stations located in the forest zone of Northern Eurasia. SLCW events are subdivided into two categories: events that caused substantial damage to forests (windthrow_binary = 1) or no damage to forests (windthrow_binary = 0). All events that did not cause windthrows are SLCWs with wind gusts of at least 25 m s-1 , which corresponds to the threshold of hazardous weather events accepted by the Russian hydrometeorological service (Roshydromet). The main meteorological characteristics (wind gusts, rainfall amount based on observations and GPM IMERG data) are determined for each event. Forest cover characteristics, namely the proportion of forest area and various dominating tree species according to the vegetation map of Russia (Bartalev et al., 2016), and the growing stock according to GlobBiomass data, are averaged in the 25-km and 100-km radius around each weather station,
