Compression and dilation of the membrane-cortex layer generates rapid changes in cell shape

Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) image of the edge of a cell fixed during the oscillation. Samples were viewed using a LEO EM910 transmission electron microscope (Carl Zeiss SMT, Inc., Peabody, MA), operating at an accelerating voltage of 80 kV. Digital images were taken using a Gatan Orius SC 1000 CCD Camera and DigitalMicrograph 3.11.0 software.
