Microbiome profiling of fecal and offspring intestinal samples from taurine-supplemented ewes

By supplementing taurine during ewe pregnancy, we obtained intestinal content samples from neonatal lambs. Fecal and intestinal content samples from the ewes were subjected to 16S rRNA sequencing to generate raw microbial data. Analysis revealed that taurine supplementation, especially at 0.2%, enriched more beneficial bacteria in the lamb gut, which are known to support intestinal barrier function. Thus, taurine may help prevent early-life diarrhea in lambs by increasing beneficial microbes and reducing harmful ones, ultimately promoting better early intestinal development and growth performance.
