Microbial community composition and assemblage across a Wisconsin urban landscape Description

Microbial communities play crucial roles in ecosystem functioning, but their diversity and assembly dynamics in urban landscapes, particularly under different turfgrass management practices, remain poorly understood. Using high-throughput sequencing of 16S rRNA and the internal transcribed spacer gene, we investigate the impact of management intensity and colonization sites on bacterial and fungal communities. In 2017, we collected 48 samples from managed turfgrass plots, including home lawns, fairways, putting greens, and an unmanaged grass mixture encompassing microbial diversity across leaf, thatch, rhizoplane, and rhizosphere habitats.
