Public hospitals and other health institutions were required to maintain a Register of Surgical Operations. This series contains registers of operations carried out at Mona Vale Hospital starting with the first procedure at the new hospital performed on 25 March 1964.The information in the volumes varies slightly over time, but typically includes the following: the hospital name with columns headed by the date of the operation, designated theatre, serial number, patient name, age, medical record number, ward, anaesthetic, anaesthetist, theatre sister in attendance, nature of the surgical procedure, total time, surgeon's name, assistants present and remarks. The volumes are arranged in chronological order with a commencement and completion date on the cover, or the year of the register.
