Future spallation sources require new detectors to performe experiments at very high count rate. A new GEM detector optimised to detect thermal and epithermal neutron has been developed at Milano-Bicocca University and ITSP-CNR laboratories. The detector has been equipped with a series of GEM foils coverd on both side with a B4C layer (BGEM) and with 6 BGEM foils a detection efficiency of 20% may be reached. A series of relevant standard samples will be investigated in order to verify the detector features in realistic conditions. We expect the use of this detecotr in transmission geometry may improve the quality of cross section data in thermal and epithermal neutron range.
