AB617 East Oakland - Low Birth Weight and Premature Births

This data comes from the Alameda County Public Health Department, Community Assessment, Planning, and Evaluation (CAPE) division, using Alameda County vital statistics files for 2019–2023. It provides rates of low birth weight and premature births in Alameda County, Oakland, and East Oakland (CERP community). Only singleton births are included because multiple births (twins, triplets, etc.) are often premature or low birth weight. Singleton low birth weight (LBW) is defined as births weighing less than 2,500 grams and greater than or equal to 277 grams, and singleton premature birth is defined as births occurring before 37 weeks gestation. For LBW, the denominator represents the number of singleton births for which birth weight was known and ≥277 grams, and for premature birth, the denominator represents the number of singleton births for which gestation period was known. Rows with missing data indicate a denominator of zero, and births with unknown race/ethnicity are not shown. This dataset was utilized in the AB617 East Oakland Community Emission Reduction Plan (CERP) Community Description.
