This study sought to assess how mosquito microbiomes are transmitted from mother to offspring and investigate which microbial members persist across life stages. Individual Aedes aegypti mosquitoes were collected from the lab or field and were allowed to lay eggs in an environment free from external microbes. The eggs were able to hatch and the offspring develop in a closed system. Microbiomes were then assessed using 16S rRNA sequencing.
