We aim to provide knowledge of the functional genetic diversity of soil microorganisms that are involved in carbon (C) cycling. The goal is to determine the functional diversity of C cycling enzymes and the key microbial actors behind the process. Furthermore, we want to understand how the intensification of agricultural management and extreme weather conditions affect the microbial communities and their functions on a genetic level.In this project we are addressing the following questions:1) How simulated summer drought can influence the diversity of soil microbial functional genes?2) What is the functional genetic diversity of soil microorganisms along a climatic gradient?3) Do increased levels of SOC can make the microbes more resistant to drought?
