Luki — Air and Children Summary

The report “LUKI — LUft and KInder” summarises the results of studies on the influence of indoor factors in all-day schools on children’s health. For this purpose, lung function and cognitive performance of children were determined, pollutants in air, fine dust and house dust of schools were measured, and the heavy metal load on milk teeth and hair samples was measured. The data were statistically evaluated and correlated with other influencing factors (family environment, food). On the basis of the results, measures are proposed to improve the indoor climate with little effort. The project contributes to the implementation of the Children Environment and Health Plan for Europe (CEHAPE) of the World Health Organisation WHO, involved the Medical University, the Interior Measurement and Consulting Service and the Federal Environment Agency.
