VPRS 17849 Admission and Discharge Register of Patients : Voluntary Boarders

This series comprises of volumes detailing voluntary male and female patient admissions and discharges to Beechworth (Hospital for the Insane 1905-1934; Mental Hospital 1934-1967; Mayday Hills Mental Hospital 1967-1991) (VA 2842)The Register includes the following details of each voluntary boarder:- admission number- name- date of reception- marital status- age- occupation- address- form of mental disorder- period of residence agreed- discharge / death detailsVoluntary boarders were those patients who made a request to be cared for as a patient in a Hospital for the Insane, or a Licensed House. Voluntary boarders were not to be deemed a "lunatic" or a "lunatic patient" within the meaning of the Lunacy Acts. Voluntary boarders could be discharged on their own application. They usually agreed to a definite period of residence.
