During the storage of dairy manure as nitrogen fertilizer for raising crops, microbial transformations mediated the loss of nitrogen and carbon compounds to N2 and several greenhouse gases such as NO, N2O, CO2, and CH4. 16S rRNA-V4 amplicons were used to identify the candidate archaea and bacteria, as well as metabolic pathways associated with these transformations in two manure storage systems, Earthen Pit (EP) and Concrete Storage (CS).
