Vegetation - Sonoran Mojave Desert [ds3199]

California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) contracted Aerial Information Systems (AIS) to create a fine-scale vegetation map of portions of the Mojave Desert and Sonoran desert ecoregions that are not currently covered by existed fine-scale vegetation mapping, an area of 4,399,242 acres. The mapping area encompasses multiple counties including Inyo County, Riverside County and San Bernardino County. The minimum mapping unit (MMU) is 10 acres for desert types and 1 acre for non-desert types. For special stands including: wetlands, riparian, and rock outcrop; the mmu is 1 acres or one fourth for non-desert types. Landuse types had an mmu of 2.5 acres. Wash types were mapped with a 5 acre mmu. The vegetation map classification adheres to the 2008 National Vegetation Classification Standard (NVCS) and the Manual of California Vegetation (MCV). The mapping standard was modified from Survey of California mapping standards in mmu and uses cover classes to accommodate difficulties in perceiving cover accurately in sparse vegetation
