Rearrangement of IncI1 shufflons interrupted by a transposition unit carrying blaCTX-M-1

This study aimed to investigate the segment-rearrangement of IncI1 shufflons that were interrupted by the transposition unit ISEcp1-blaCTX-M-1-orf477, and non-interrupted shufflons. Nanopore long-read sequencing was used to obtain the sequences of both interrupted shufflons and non-interrupted shufflons. The shufflon rearrangement was examined during different growth phases of an IncI1 plasmid host. Moreover, to investigate whether the shufflon-rearrangement was plasmid-host dependent, plasmids harbouring the transposition-unit interrupted shufflons were grown in their original hosts (ST57) and E. coli strain 2014-01-2773 (ST162).
