INCA - Pollination - ES Demand - 2004-2008 - LAU2

This dataset is an output of KIP INCA. It describes the demand for pollination services at EU scale, based on the distribution of crops.

The vectormap shows the aggregated demand at LAU level as hectare of pollinator dependent crops for 2004 and 2008. -999 Nodata.

LAU stands for Local Administrative Unit. The LAU2 level used in this map (formerly NUTS level 5) consists of municipalities or equivalent units in the 28 EU Member States.

Together with data which describe the potential of the land to support pollinators this dataset can be used to account for pollination as an ecosystem service flow.

Pollination is a key ecosystem service as many crops but in particular, fruits and vegetables are partially dependent on pollinating insects to produce food for human consumption.

The demand for crop pollination was quantified as the extent of pollinator-dependent crops. The assessment is based on CAPRI data. Demand is expressed as ha of pollinator-depended crops.
