资源简介:
An experiment took place on September 21st, 2015 at approximately 3:30pm with group members Felicia O., Richer L., Dylan C.,Brandon B. split into two teams. The temperature at Danby Woodlot was 21˚C with sunny and clear skies. The data found here is Woodlot dataset 4 that samples 10 adult and sapling Red Maple Trees, Acer rubrum, were used as samples for Datasets 3 and 4. The data was collected by randomly selecting the adult Red Maple Trees and recording: diameter at breast height (cm), canopy coverage (percentage), distance to nearest sapling (m), and diameter at breast height of the sapling (cm). The measurements of the diameters and distance were obtained by using a transect measuring tape. The diameter of the adult tree was measured by extending trhe transect tape horizontally across the tree at breast length. The canopy coverage was recorded by making a square with index and thumb, holding it up to the sky and estimating the percentage of sky visible in the square. The distance of a sapling of the same species was measured from the root of the adult tree to the root of the sapling (measured in meters). Lastly the diameter of the sapling was measured in the same way as the adult tree. This process is repeated 10 times with a random sampling of adult trees. This experiment allows one to improve fine tune their data collection techniques in their experiments thereby obtaining a broader understanding of accurate sample sizing, using transects in order to measure your subjects and random sample selection.
